F-T Fuel Booster
This is a simple but effective device that we can attach to your main gas line that will help you save a minimum of 5% (and often up to 10%) on gas consumption for your water heater, boiler, furnace…even your gas grill. There’s no maintenance, no additives, simply installation…and we can transfer the unit to your new home or apartment.
Geothermal/Electric Heat Pumps
A heat pump is a combined home comfort system that provides central air conditioning and heating all in one energy efficient system. They cost less than two separate systems, and provide an endless array of advantages:
The Safety Advantage
- No humidifier is needed. Electric heat pumps don’t over-dry indoor air, eliminating many sinus problems.
- Put carbon monoxide poisoning worries out of your mind. Electric heat pumps don’t produce thishazardous toxin.
- Electric heat pumps eliminate the hazards of natural or LP gas leaks and explosions.
The Economic Advantage
- Since electric heat pumps move heat rather than create it, their efficiency is theoretically unlimited. Fossil fuel systems don’t even come close.
It’s a smart alternative, all the way around.
Central Air Conditioning Systems
If you’re in the market for a new system, insist on a unit with a high SEER (energy efficient) rating. In fact, look for the Energy Star label and compare brands and models before making your decision. Also insist on an environmentally friendly cooling agent…something other than freon (chlorofluorocarbon.) Heating & Air Conditioning Systems
There are many system enhancements and built-in features that can help you reduce energy consumption while enjoying greater indoor comfort. These include:
- Built-in humidification/de-humidification systems…with the right level of humidity, you can achieve the desired temperature and humidity levels while lowering your energy costs.
- Zoning…why heat or cool certain areas of your home at full capacity when they’re being under-utilized, or not used at all. Zoning can keep you comfortable by maintaining desired temperatures only where you spend the most time.
- Programmable Thermostats…these allow you to program your heating and cooling systems to achieve comfortable temperatures while you’re home, and to cut back on energy consumption when you’re not.
- Regular System Maintenance...the better and more consistent your maintenance, the less energy it will take to maintain comfortable conditions…plus your systems will last longer and incur fewer repair problems.
Green Kitchen Remodeling
In today's world, a green kitchen remodel makes financial and ecological sense. As you prepare to remodel your kitchen, make sure you leave room in the budget for green home appliances. Of course, besides the ENERGY STAR refrigerator and dishwasher, there are a few other green kitchen features you may have overlooked . . .
- Televisions and phones also come with Energy Star ratings.
- Use natural, ecologically friendly detergent or liquid soap to wash your dishes.
- Cut back on paper and foam plates and cups and use fewer paper towels on a daily basis. Washing dishes and rinsing dish cloths uses much less energy than manufacturing and discarding disposable products.
Solar Heating
A staggering 40% of home energy consumption is used to heat and cool your home while it takes another 30% for your hot water supply. Solar heating can dramatically reduce electricity usage, therefore reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Free heating from the sun is the least expensive way to heat your home and water.
Tank-less Water Heaters
Tank-less water heaters provide instant hot water, therefore reducing both water usage and energy consumption.
Low-Flow Water Consumption Toilets
Since 1994, the federal government has mandated that toilets be made to flush with no more than 1.6 gallons of water. Now it's asking that we go further -- particularly those of us who still have high-flow toilets that require 3.5 or more gallons per flush. The new standard is 1.28-gallon toilets. Why is that so important? For starters, toilets account for 30% percent of your daily water consumption. A family of four can save more than 16,500 gallons of water a year by upgrading to a 1.28 gallon model, and an estimated $2,000 over the life of the toilet itself.
Low-flow Faucets and Showerheads
These reduce the volume of water by adding air or compressed air to the flow. That, in turn, creates a high velocity spray that seems like more water is coming out of the fixture. Best of all, these low-flow fixtures can help cut your hot water consumption by up to 50%.
Washing Your Clothes
Look for environmentally friendly laundry detergents. There are several to choose from, and each is concentrated for extra loads per bottle and PH balanced for sensitive skin.
Fixing a Leaky Faucet
Fixing a leaky faucet can save 20 gallons of water per day! You can also install low-flow water aerators. These are the small devices that have a screen in them and are mounted to the end of your faucet. A typical low-flow aerator can save up to 30% of the water used by a regular aerator. When buying a new faucet, look for the EPA WaterSense® label so you know the faucet is independently certified to perform and save water.
We hope you’ve found this information helpful, and again, we encourage you to send us additional green living ideas of your own…and they don’t have to be about plumbing, heating or cooling!
